Way back in 2001, the Ford Escape was introduced to the market with bang, and it’s been one of Ford’s most popular compact SUVs since. Unfortunately, the Escape is being discontinued to make way for an as yet unnamed EV model after 2025. Today, however, it’s still around and winning legions of fans. Let’s look at what’s new for 2024.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- The Ford Escape saw few changes from 2023 to 2024. Changes made in 2023 have carried over.
- The 2024 Escape has dropped the Base model from the previous year.
- The Escape will be discontinued after 2025 to make way for an EV model.
What are the Changes for the 2024 Ford Escape?
The 2023 Escape saw a new exterior, new trim models (including its Plug-In Hybrid) and tech features. This year’s Escape hasn’t seen many changes, but retains all of those. This year, the consumer line starts with the Active model.
All of the Escape’s trim levels are at very affordable price points.
- Active: $29,495
- ST-Line: $30,490
- ST-Line Select: $34,040
- Platinum: $37,465
- ST-Line Elite: $38,460
- Plug-in Hybrid: $40,500
Ford has retired some of the colors from ‘23 and added others this year:
- Race Red and Oxford White Active were added as Rapid Red Metallic and Star White Metallic Tri-coat are now discontinued in the Active trim
- Atlas Blue Metallic and Cinnabar Red Metallic Premium have been discontinued across all levels.
The Escape’s Engine Power in 2024
This compact SUV has plenty of get up and go! Standard to the Active and ST-Line is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, delivering 180 horsepower 199 lb-feet of torque. AWD is optional and paired with eight-speed automatic transmission.
The ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, and Platinum 2.0-liter come standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine giving 250 horses and 280 lb-ft of torque; they, too, have optional AWD paired with eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Escape’s Plug-in Hybrid option—a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, delivers 210 horsepower and 155 lb.-ft of torque. In terms of fuel efficiency, the PHEV averages a whopping 40 mpg overall!
Escape infotainment and tech stays the same in 2024
The Escape’s infotainment system in its lower trims features an 8.0-inch touchscreen, which can be upgraded to 13.2-inches. (This larger screen is standard for higher trims.) All models feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Ford's latest Sync 4 infotainment interface, and voice commands.
Optional to the Escape is a 12.3-inch digital gauge display, a 10-speaker Bang and Olufsen stereo system, in-dash navigation, and a pop-up head-up display. Ford’s Intelligent Access with push-button is standard at the ST-Line and above.
Room to Ride
For being compact, the Escape is quite spacious. The SUV seats five passengers comfortably and has 37.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity when all occupants are inside. When the rear seats are folded, that number nearly doubles to 65.4 cubic feet of space. The back seats can also slide forward to accommodate cargo or backward to accommodate passengers of any height.
