Most Notable Differences
We must remind you again that while the Ford F-150 Lightning is already out on the market, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is not expected to arrive for quite some time. Therefore, a lot of what we know of both the Silverado EV and any future F-150 Lightning pickups is subject to change quite a bit.
One could even say that the most notable difference is that the F-150 Lightning actually exists at this time! By the time the Chevy Silverado EV hits the market, Ford will have evolved and matured and most likely will be producing a better model to compete.
Price is another factor that has some striking differences. While the initial starting points for the two pickups appear to be quite similar, at the top level trims the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST is estimated to start almost $15,000 more than the 2022 Ford F-150 Platinum model without seeming to offer much extra to account for the jump in price as currently announced.
Towing and Trailering in the F-150 Lightning and the Silverado EV
The biggest hurdle for manufacturers when they began looking at putting fully-electric engines into pickups was the question of how to offer the same level of power and towing capabilities as the gasoline alternatives. Both Ford and Chevrolet have surmounted this feat with identical estimated towing capabilities of 10,000 lbs. Additionally, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has a maximum payload capacity of 2,000 lbs. and the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV predicts they will offer a maximum payload of 1,300 lbs. When compared with the gasoline counterparts, these numbers are remarkably similar. So much so that you could easily forget you are fully powered by electricity.
Features and Design for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning and the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV
Just looking at these two pickups, anyone with a keen eye will notice one large detail. Namely, while the F-150 Lightning looks like an F-150, the Silverado EV looks nothing like a Silverado. In fact, it looks quite a bit like the discontinued Chevy Avalanche.
Naturally you would expect a modern fully-electric pickup to also include a modern infotainment technology system. The F-150 Lightning offers a standard 12.0-inch touchscreen and the option to have an even larger 15.5-inch display. Either of these displays can also include the SYNC 4A software which has voice recognition, built-in navigation, traffic and weather updates, and can even learn your driving habits and common routes you drive to give you updates as needed. The Silverado EV is predicted to come with an 11.0-inch touchscreen with a larger 17.0-inch display relegated to the top-level RST model. Both the Silverado EV and the F-150 Lightning offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an on-board Wi-Fi hotspot.
