The 2022 Volvo XC60 is a luxury compact SUV, featuring a spacious, premium interior and a large cargo hold that is one of the best in its class. It impresses on the road with its powerful powertrains, smooth ride, and plug-in hybrid.
Design
The 2022 Volvo XC60 has refreshed its styling this model year, with reworked front and rear fascias and a luxurious, well-built cabin. It provides good cargo space and will seat five people comfortably with plenty of head- and legroom, and premium materials throughout the interior. Premium cloth upholstery and six-way power-adjustable front seats come standard. Available options include leather upholstery, heated front seats, ventilated and massaging front seat, and a heated steering wheel. There is 22.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 63.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. You have a choice of four trim levels on the XC60: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, and Polestar Engineered. Pricing starts at $42,650 for the Momentum and ranges to a starting price of $69,500 for the Polestar Engineered.
Power, Towing and Price
The XC60 has updated its engines with a new 48-volt mild hybrid system and is now called B5 and B6. There are three powertrain options with the XC60. The standard B5 powertrain with the 48-volt mild-hybrid system is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a 247-horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The B6 has the same engine, but with a supercharger that raises the output to 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. There are also plug-in hybrid Recharge models, called T8, that combine the T6 engine with an electric motor and a 10.4 lithium-ion battery, producing 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers will rise to 415 hp and 494 with the Polestar Engineered. Its handling is competent, but it lacks the agility of some rivals. You will get an overall estimated fuel rating of 23/30mpg in the city and on the highway. The XC60 Recharge earns 57 MPG-equivalent and 25 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Its electric-only range is 19 miles.
Safety and Technology
The XC60 features a standard infotainment system with a 9-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, and a 10-speaker audio system. Additional standard features include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a panoramic moonroof, and dual-zone automatic climate control. A 14-speaker Harman Kardon stereo or a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo is available. The XC60 has a good list of standard safety features including, forward collision warning, forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, rearview camera, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlights, rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Overall
The Volvo XC60 is sure to impress with its spacious interior and cargo space, generous room for passengers, and luxury feel. Plenty of technology features and robust engines top off this luxury compact SUV.
